Dealing with yourself is an interesting topic not only from a socio-cultural point of view. The personal forms that are tracked during modelling voice one’s feelings in form of a portrait.

The seminar is only addressed to students that already have modelled and completed a portrait with Mr. Meyer. Since the core question of this seminar is whether and to what extent analog-manual experiences and methods of plastic modelling can be transferred to digital techniques and what questions can be proposed due to that.

At that, it is an offer of a seminar that is both practical and scientific. The aim is to investigate and analyze the process of transferring manual techniques to digital work with the help of scientific methods. That is why the analogue experiences during the creation of a digital self-portrait from clay and cast are an obligatory requirement for this seminar.

Modelling with digital techniques requires a specific perception and opens new possibilities regarding the procedure, the means of expression and the spatial thinking!

Previous knowledge and experience concerning CAD-software are helpful, they can also be developed independently. The specific procedure with the software (Rhino and co.) will be addressed within the practical elements of the course.

The written reflection of the design process serves as an important part for the data for the theoretical contestation. Further insights are gained through dealing with an individual immersion topic among the theoretical part of the seminar task.

Theoretical and practical elements will always be worked on at the stone court on Wednesday, accompanying the independent treatment of the research question.

At the end, the manually and digitally created self-portraits are scientifically investigated and described with the help of surveys. The criteria of the surveys are based on the questioning procedure of the Delphi method as a comparing estimation method. The aim is to approach the core question whether it is possible to comprehend and compare the transfer of manually acquired expertise in the digital application with the help of these surveys and which further questions and problems arise.

By dealing with your own sculptural work and its scientific description, every student has the possibility to approach the topic of individual scientific work within a clear framework.
